Berlinde De Bruyckere (Ghent, 1964) is a Belgian visual artist of international acclaim, known for her installations, sculptures, and limited editions. The human body lies at the heart of her work, exploring themes of vulnerability, transformation, suffering, and metamorphosis. Since the early 1990s, she has worked with materials such as wax, wool, leather, and wood, creating human and equine forms that are both moving and unsettling. Her international breakthrough came when she represented Belgium at the Venice Biennale in 1999.
