Jan Desmarets is a Belgian sculptor renowned for his dynamic bronze sculptures that emphasize strength, movement, and anatomical precision. He studied sculpture at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent, and his mastery of casting techniques gives him the freedom to transform ideas into fully realized works. His oeuvre includes both mythological figures, such as Janus or Icarus, and everyday animals - horses, dogs, or storks - symbolizing power, freedom, and vitality. Desmarets gained wide recognition for monumental public commissions, including the impressive Ros Beiaard in Dendermonde. He lives and works in Zomergem.
