Artist Statement: Catherine Vanhullebusch
In "Twisted Truth", Catherine Vanhullebusch explores how we do not passively perceive reality, but actively shape it. Her works appear clear and minimal, yet reveal subtle shifts upon closer look - folds, slight deviations, fragile edges, and nuances in colour and material.
Where the gaze settles, the image changes. What seems simple becomes layered. What appears stable begins to shift. Each viewer constructs their own version of what is perceived. The small twists - sometimes accidental, sometimes intentional - do not disrupt, but intensify. They introduce a freedom in which imperfection is not corrected, but allowed.
"Twisted Truth" shows how we assign meaning, filter and shift - and in doing so, shape our own reality.
