In "Het essentiële 17", Roger Raveel reduces his visual language to its essence. This etching is part of a series in which he experiments with simplicity, space, and the omission of unnecessary detail. What remains is a purified image composed of just a few lines and shapes - a square, some contours, a suggestion of movement - that together evoke an open, almost meditative atmosphere. What makes this work particularly special is that Raveel hand-colored it, making each impression unique. The combination of printmaking and personal intervention shows how he sought to preserve the individual and the tangible.
