Art Story
In "Een herinnering aan Dulciakunst", Roger Raveel reflects on a personal and poetic experience, encapsulated in a mysterious title. "Dulciakunst" likely refers to something sweet or melodic (dulcia means "sweet" in Latin), but it also directly references an art happening held in 1969 at the Dulcia knitwear factory in Zottegem. Alongside artists such as Etienne Elias and Raoul De Keyser, Raveel explored the interaction between art and reality there.
The composition of the work is striking: the painting is divided into two equal halves. One half shows a brightly colored image; the other consists of a large white area outlined in black. This white area - a recurring motif in Raveel's oeuvre - does not function here as emptiness but as an active space for reflection. It deliberately leaves something unresolved, as an invitation to reflection or imagination. With this sober yet charged visual language, Raveel evokes an atmosphere of retrospection and longing, without becoming literal.
