Art Story
In "Natuur, stof en geest", Roger Raveel connects three fundamental dimensions of human existence: nature as a living and organic force, matter as the tangible and perishable, and spirit as the invisible, inner, or spiritual realm. The tripartite title reflects Raveel's ongoing search for balance between the visible and the invisible, between physical life and the deeper meaning that lies beneath.
Created in 2010, when the artist was 89, this work belongs to the final phase of his career, characterized by formal simplicity and contemplative depth. With generous white space, geometric shapes, and suggestive figuration, Raveel evokes a quiet, reflective atmosphere. "Natuur, stof en geest" is not a literal representation, but a visual meditation: a moment of stillness that invites the viewer to consider the connection between body, world, and consciousness.
Shown among others at the Roger Raveelmuseum, this work is regarded as one of the artist's most meaningful late reflections and an essential part of his legacy.
