Roger Raveel

Art Story

"Een voetenspel" is an oil painting on canvas that Roger Raveel created over the course of ten years. As is often the case in his work, abstract and figurative elements are interwoven in a composition that is both clear and enigmatic. Two feet - each belonging to a different pair - move toward or appear within a white space, left blank at the center of the image. This area acts as a space for thought, a boundary, or an empty stage: its meaning remains open. The title suggests movement or interaction, yet the game largely unfolds off-screen. The painting thus fits into Raveel's ongoing quest for a visual language that sharply probes the boundary between art and reality. Despite the minimal composition, the experience remains intense: the viewer is invited not only to look, but also to relate to what is absent.
