Art Story
Triptychos Post Historicus is a well-known art series by Braco Dimitrijević in which he combines classical masterpieces with everyday objects such as fruit, vegetables, clothing, or household items.
What does it involve?
- He places a famous painting (such as by Picasso, Turner, or Van Gogh) next to an everyday object and a living element (sometimes a plant or an animal).
- This combination forms a triptych: a three-part artwork that refers to religious altarpieces, but is used here to question art history.
The idea behind it:
Dimitrijević argues that art is not separate from everyday life. By placing ordinary objects next to museum pieces, he breaks the hierarchy between "high" and "low" culture. He aims to show that meaning arises not only from historical status, but also from context and interpretation.
His motto: "Louvre is my studio, the street is my museum."
