Signed etching, made on Dutch paper. As an etcher working from nature, James Ensor was particularly fascinated by the depiction of light in forests and, as in this etching, in the polder landscape. He worked with small, nervous strokes charged with tension. His landscapes are characterized by a restrained, economical line, giving them a strong suggestive power.
