Extra info: Signed and highly detailed etching in which - as is typical of James Sidney Edouard baron Ensor - the boundary between imagination and reality seems to blur. The work presents a rich mixture of oddly costumed human figures and animal elements. The landscape also features various Roman structures, such as triumphal arches and small aqueducts. This etching is offered in a classic black frame with UV-protective glass. It is also included in the catalogue raisonné of James Ensor's graphic work by Taevernier under no. 78. This work was part of the exhibition of the Brussels artists' association "Les Vingt" in February 1891.
