In his latest series from 2025, Jan De Vliegher once again turns his attention to the opulent interiors of the Palace of Versailles -a theme he first explored in 2014, but then without any human presence. In his most recent works, De Vliegher prominently includes visitors. Their brightly colored clothing blends with the gold of the ornaments, the glossy marble, and the rich paintings. This newly introduced human presence makes the compositions tangible and realistic -almost strikingly lifelike. Additionally, De Vliegher introduces self-developed neon pigments, subtly mixed with white, creating a light that literally seems to glow. These neon accents enhance the splendor of the gold and the brightest textile colors, making the depiction even more lavish and dynamic. De Vliegher's characteristic, energetic brushwork remains the beating heart of these compositions. The monumental architecture transforms into a rhythmic play of color planes, contours, and light reflections -pure painting with subtle nods to the Venetian master Paolo Veronese. With "Versailles", Jan De Vliegher creates a powerful, idiosyncratic interpretation of classical grandeur: a series of paintings full of energy, light, and refinement, clearly standing out within his oeuvre.
