Art Story

"La Nouvelle Chute de l'Amérique" was created in 1992 as a collaboration between Roy Lichtenstein and Beat Generation poet Allen Ginsberg. The suite of ten prints, to which this work belongs, was produced for a French edition of Ginsberg's acclaimed collection "The Fall of America" (1972), in which he reflects on the political and social unrest in the United States during the Vietnam War and the growing racial tensions at home.
For this edition, Lichtenstein translates Ginsberg's poetic observations into his signature Pop Art visual language. Lone highways, mountain range sunsets, glittering fireworks, and roiling cityscapes are rendered into bold, stylised compositions. The series reflects both artists' shared interest in a changing America, shaped by social upheaval, industrial expansion, and cultural transformation.
