Bram Bogart

Marken belongs to the distinctive body of material paintings that Bram Bogart produced in the mid-1980s. By this period, the artist had fully developed his visual language: monumental fields of colour built up through exceptionally thick layers of paint enriched with pigments, chalk, and cement-based fillers. As a result, the surface acquires a powerful physical and tactile presence, where painting approaches the realm of relief. The monumental composition and the emphasis on materiality and colour reflect Bogart's ongoing exploration of the very essence of painting.
